He offers both non-surgical and surgical gum therapies, and a soft-tissue management program. The most successful way of maintaining your oral health is the use of an effective daily oral hygiene routine which includes brushing and flossing, along with regularly scheduled professional cleanings and examinations. Scientific research continues to support the direct relationship between periodontal disease and serious systemic diseases. Periodontal disease can be extremely destructive since most people do not feel any pain associated with it. This is why it is so important to see your dentist every 6 months.  After age 30, your chances of periodontal disease increase dramatically. The good news is that our -periodontal therapy program is one of the most complete of its kind. Our examination includes a careful check of your gumline, precise pocket depth measurements and an inspection of        your bone line and -mobility of teeth. Our advanced periodontal therapy includes proper oral hygiene education, antibiotics, bite correction, scaling, root planing and splinting. It also includes the convenience of having your whole dental team in one place. Additionally, we may recommend Arestin® as part of your therapy. It's an FDA-approved treatment for periodontitis that easily and effectively kills the germs that cause periodontal disease. Please go to their website for additional information www.arestin.com Patient education is such a significant part of our practice. We can help you avoid periodontal disease. Oral Cancer Screenings During a dental exam, the doctor will check your neck and oral tissues for lumps, red or white patches or recurring sore areas. Screening for early changes in the oral tissue can help detect cancer at a stage when it can be more successfully treated. Smoking, especially combined with heavy alcohol consumption (30 drinks a week or more), is the primary risk factor for oral cancer.  In fact, this combination is estimated to be the most likely trigger in about 75 percent of oral cancers diagnosed in this country. Other lifestyle and environmental factors also may increase your risk of developing oral cancer. Scaling & Root Planing Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical procedure in which the periodontist removes plaque and tartar from below the gum line. Root surfaces are cleaned and smoothed with specially designed instruments. It is important to remove the plaque and tartar from the pockets, because aside from the bacterial toxins that irritate the gums, plaque and the rough surfaces of tartar make it easier for bacteria to gain a foothold.
